Harvest House is a food ministry of Nichols Street
Church of Christ. The Harvest House was organized in 1993 to serve the
food needs of the needy population of Bay City and Matagorda County. Now
in its fifteenth year, the ministry distributes groceries to
approximately 300 families per week. Our staff is comprised of
approximately thirty-five volunteers. We have no paid employees.
We make every effort to treat our clients with dignity
and respect, and to offer them hope and encouragement while helping
with their food needs. We also offer spiritual help, but do not
discriminate on the basis of sex, color, race, age, disability,
religion, national origin or political belief. We simply try to reach
out to human beings who have a need.
We have membership in the Food Bank of the Golden
Crescent in Victoria, Texas from which we obtain approximately 90
percent of the food we distribute. We meet or exceed all the standards
of the food bank, and are subject to an annual inspection to insure
compliance. We comply with the Texas Department of Human Service's
requirement for Civil Rights for the Special Nutrition Programs and
provide annual training for our volunteers.
